Book Review: Only for you

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Four Stars.”
Write a review of your life — or the life of someone close to you — as if it were a movie or a book.

If “Only for you” by Navaneedha Krishnan were not so remarkably well written I do not believe anyone would be able to summon up the courage to finish this book. As it is, you probably won’t put it down until you read the last lines and just sit there, smile, thinking and wondering how beautiful it is to live the life of the protagonist in the story. The author narrates the book in first person, the story is of a young man, Naveen Haldorai, who works hard to launch his dream career in entertainment industry and later gives up his dream job and his fast ascending career possibility to choose a life in entrepreneurship, which is filled with laps of uncertainty—all in pursuit for her, the girl of his dreams, his lady love, who empowers him in his brave ride.

Unlike the hot selling bollywood like love story novels, this book makes a bash of difference in content. This story spotlights how mainstream are the choices young Indians have, when it comes to career or profession and how an offbeat career (like here in the story the protagonist is an RJ) is challenged. It also speaks the entrepreneurial challenges the protagonist here or any motivated Indian will face when it comes trying their hand in entrepreneurship. SPOILER: The author does take the readers through a crash course on how to read and understand a Balance sheet, all set as a theme in the story.

When the book opens, the narrator is all set in queue to make his first air travel, a cross country flight in which he meets the dashing and fabulous Miss Diya, with whom he shares his story. Written with a profound sense of comedy, the author doesn’t fail to tickle our senses with the wittily phrased words and dialogues. The author has also deliberately provoked a doubt with his readers, to make them believe this is no work of fiction, but a closely recorded biography of a true story. The narratives, the setting that leads to the theme are well placed to record the protagonist’s life for over a decade. The book travels with the RJ-turned-Entrepreneur, narrator, through his first kiss, his first motor-bike, his first lesson in business, his first successful business deal and much more lessons that just looks like its been extended from a management school syllabii, the magic is its been imposed naturally into the story and interestingly fits the genre the author has tried to master.

Naveen’s life moves between present and past tense with no respect for linear time. As a result, everything is happening now, or again, or in the future. The overall theme of the book simply puts to fact that, the lovely moments in life are well wrapped that we, the readers A.K.A. humans, could easily miss to witness it, if we don’t live our lives at the very moments.

“Only for you” does not have an awkward sentence, phrase or word. It reads with the grace that only a very skilled writer can summon. Not surprisingly, Navaneedha Krishnan is a well-regarded poet. We have the highest regard for his as a novelist. By all means, read this book.

If you’re impatient to get your hands on the copy of this book, here’s a quick freebie from the author, Read the first episode of “Only for you” here:

The Score: 4/5 STARS. I would’ve given this book an easy 5, if its not for the fiction that went through the making of this fiction!
